How can you get sponsors for a college yearbook?
Q. Since yearbooks are mostly school-based, what is the best way to get sponsors? The yearbook also includes the graduation ball but how can you market that? Also what type of companies are most inclined to sponsor a school yearbook?

A. Wow. You're bringing back some old memories for me. I was yearbook editor in high school and college, so I recall selling ads. I now work in the field of marketing, so I'm on the other end buying ads. Having just left a credit union marketing position, I can tell you we used to brainstorm on how we could reach the college market. So, if your prices are right, there is a lot of potential. Advertisers see college students as a market that is difficult to reach but highly desired because of future earning potential. When seeking advertisers (which I continue to do in various charitable positions), I recommend always starting out with a well-written letter and perhaps a sheet showing sizes of your ads. If possible, call and get the correct… [cont.]

A. i have been on the yearbook staff since middle school and now i am the senior editor so i know where you are coming from on how excited. By the way Congratulations! so first off there is nothing to be nervous about it is a fun class and the dumbest idea can be turned into anything lol. Here are some sample themes: Rollercoaster/Theme Park- Ride of Our Lives, Movie/Theater- It'sShowtime, Fairytale - Once upon a time, RoadTrip- Life is a Highway. Hope these might give you an idea! As far as advice goes, i would suggest make sure to communicate with everyone. Let everyone share their opinion and good luck hope your yearbook turns out great.

What kind of pictures do i take for my Yearbook class application?
Q. I would like to be apart of my yearbook class, and the application says to attach some sample photos. Do you have any ideas on what kind of pictures I should take?

A. Photos of people. It is a yearbook class after all and basically all of the pictures you will end up taking are of people, the students at your school. So take pictures of people that show emotion and tell a story, which is the main point of a yearbook. This site should be helpful:

How would I get signatures from paper onto the yearbook pages to put underneath the senior portraits?
Q. I'm on the yearbook team for high school this year and my job is to get the signatures from all of the seniors that are graduating, scan them in, and get them on the pages under their senior portraits. We've never done this before but I've seen it, so I know it's possible. What kind of paper would I use? What kind of template? How do I photoshop everything else out? What is the best and most time efficient way to do this? Thank you!
Asked by Christina - Wed Sep 17 18:05:22 2008 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments
A. What will you need to photoshop out? When we did ours, we had each senior sign on their own index card. Wait, this was kind of time consuming, and I don't know when your deadline is. It was the easiest way we could figure to do it. Anyway, we just had to scan each card in and saved them all as a jpg image, then added it onto the pages by "inserting an image" underneath the corresponding senior pic. But we were using Adobe InDesign. What program do you use?

What are some unique yearbook story ideas?
Q. Hi I am the student life editor of my yearbook and i needed some help coming up with unique story ideas for my section. The editors in chief want really unique and interesting ideas this year and i am stumped.

A. What is your theme? Building on your theme may generate ideas for "student spotlights", "heard in the hallway" comments, "we asked, you answered" surveys and other running bits that you could feature throughout the book. I'll come back and comment further if you supply some details, including some basic info about your school.

How do I get my yearbook that my cat peed on restored?
Q. My cat peed on my yearbook from 6th grade. At first I thought it was glue, but now I've come to realize what it really is. I can't get to the pages where everyone signed. Is there a way to get it restored?
Asked by XEBFAFTTBBYNKTMC - Wed Jun 10 13:23:34 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The cat urinated on your yearbook? If this book is really important then take it to a professional conservator. It's going to require some very special solvents and expertise to fix your book. You can't just soak it in distilled water or anything like that because that will ruin any water based signatures and will loosen any binding glue.

A. Adobe InDesign is phenomenal. It's easy to use because it's in the same format as Photoshop and the prices are reasonable. Every printing company is affiliated with the program so wether or not you choose to work with Jostens, they will be able to read it. I would personally recommend working with Herff Jones. They're a lot more flexible. Hope that helps!
