How do movie directors get the copyrights from books with dead authors?
Q. I know that directors have to buy the copyright from the author before adapting their books into films. But how does it work if the book they want to adapt is really old, and the author has already passed away?
Asked by Trix Is My Kryptonite - Fri Feb 6 14:40:22 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The copyright still exists and is held by someone so long as the work has not passed into the public domain (as of now, all books put out prior to 1923 are in the public domain). Most likely, the author's widow or children, but it may also revert back to the publisher. in some cases, the rights are willed to institutions in the author's will. One well-known example is Peter Pan, the rights of which were willed to Great Ormond Street children's hospital after Barrie died. So his work funded good deeds for generations after his death. It is just a matter of doing the research (usually starting with the book's publisher) and finding out who owns it and negotiating with that person or institution.

Who elects directors to a the board of a Ltd Company? Is it the founding Directors or shareholders?
Q. Are there any set provisions (in Company law) for how Directors are re elected? Are elections (or re elections) of Directors voted upon by existing directors or shareholders?
Asked by Roman - Sun Feb 1 13:42:12 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Shareholders elect the Directors, not the existing Directors. The Chairman of the Board of Directors is elected by the Directors.

What age range do casting directors usually pick for the role of Wendy in Peter Pan?
Q. I was wondering what the age range was for wendy in peter pan that casting directors look for. Would they pick a 16 year old over a 21 year old or vice versa?
Asked by Singing-Telegram - Fri Apr 11 21:19:49 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They want her to look about 13 to 16 years old - how old she REALLY is, doesn't matter. Actually, if a 21 year old has a tiny body and can pull off looking very young, they would probably choose her over the younger actress (if the talent was the same) because there is less problem with worrying about school or worrying about overworking a minor. Hope that helps!
