Bones are rigid organs that form part of the endoskeleton of vertebrates. They function to move, support, and protect the various organs of the body, produce red and white blood cells and store minerals. Bone tissue is a type of dense connective tissue. Because bones come in a variety of shapes and have a complex internal and external structure they are lightweight, yet strong and hard, in addition to fulfilling their many other functions. One of the types of tissue that makes up bone is the mineralized osseous tissue, also called bone tissue, that gives it rigidity and a honeycomb-like three-dimensional internal structure. Other types of tissue found in bones include marrow, endosteum and periosteum, nerves, blood vessels and cartilage. There are 206 bones in the adult human body and 270 in an infant. Q. Are there any of the dental bones, or marrow bones that are on the market that are known to damage teeth or gums? Asked by Cuddles - Wed Jul 25 15:06:13 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. My greyhounds have nylabones (which only 1 of them will chew). They also get been knuckle bones at least once every 2 weeks. I've found that I can only let them chew them for about 20 minutes a day or they're going to get the runs. They can stay in the fridge for 3 days so they get lots of chewing time in. For treats, they get milk bones of some type as well as some absolutely terrific chicken jerky I found - the only ingredient is chicken breast and they're crazy about it. I also make them chicken livers which they'll do every trick they know to get and are learning new ones all the time. Just boil it with a pinch of salt and a bit of garlic powder. I also make them home-made biscuits from time to time - some with peanut butter,… [cont.] Answered by walking lady - Wed Jul 25 16:38:22 2007 How much calcium is in chicken bones? Q. I have been cooking whole fryers for my dogs in my pressure cooker. If you cook them an hour and a half or more the bones are safe to feed. I'm wondering how much calcium is in a whole four pound fryer with bones? Asked by Kelly H - Thu May 31 16:55:26 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The longer you cook anything, the less nutritious it is. It's obliterated by the heat. If you are concerned about the calcium intake, use an alternative, like giving them leafy greens...sometimes you can give them an egg white bath and the dogs will eat them that way. Have you ever thought of the raw food diet? The bones are safe that way, as well, and they will be able to get more calcium out of them raw. Forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan has an uncanny ability to read clues left behind in a victim's bones. Consequently, law enforcement calls her in to assist with murder investigations when the remains are so badly decomposed, burned, or destroyed that the standard identification methods are useless.
